The Maxwell American Legion Auxiliary Unit 249 has been participating in this project for the last few years. The students are so excited to receive their dictionaries every year and they use them at school in their class. The teachers really enjoy the time the students spends with their dictionaries. Our Auxiliary Unit loves it -- what a great experience for students! We are donating these dictionaries to the Collins-Maxwell Elementary School in memory of Lillian Joor - deceased Elementary teacher. We received the money from one of her husband's friends in her memory.

The Rotary Club of Jackson has been providing dictionaries for several years to one school in the Rankin County School District. This year the club decided to choose three schools from our school district to provide dictionaries to those third graders. Age-appropriate activities are chosen to help club members and students interact using the new dictionaries. Education of our young people is valued highly by the Rotary Club. Our county wishes to encourage our young people and young adults to be successful in life. The project coordinator, Ellen L Dabbs, values education and the importance of the community helping our students be successful not only in school but also in life. This is a small way that our community of Rankin County can help our students.

This is our fifth year of participation and each and every year is just as exciting as the previous ones. We work through the dictionary with the students. Last year we invited our foreign exchange student to participate in the distribution. The student responses are overwhelmingly positive. This has been a great success story for us as the teachers look forward to the gifts with great delight.

This has been a great project to provide dictionaries to all 3rd grade students in the public schools, private schools, and to home schooled students. Literacy is one of the greatest skills to acquire. By providing the dictionaries, we are helping all 3rd graders. I believe that we have delivered more than 14,000 dictionaries since 2004. We partner with the Terre Haute Rotary Club, the Brazil Rotary Club and the Sullivan Rotary Club. They deliver the books. The Community Foundation purchases the dictionaries. We are working to build an endowment fund that will allow for the purchase of dictionaries each and every year.

This will be the 6th year we have been active in distributing Student Dictionaries to 10 area third grade school students. It has become one of the members' favorite projects! Fantastic! Even with the internet, the kids are totally excited to receive the book.

Our Delhi Rotary Club has been participating in this project for about 5 years. As a teacher in the Delhi School District, I can tell you that the 3rd graders now look forward to receiving their dictionaries. I make labels to place in the dictionary that tell that our Rotary Club sponsored the project. This is a wonderful project. It gets kids excited about words and literacy.
