The goal of The Dictionary Project is to provide students with dictionaries to keep as their own personal reference books. By providing this tool we assist teachers in helping students become active readers, good writers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners. The dictionaries will help the students learn to use the English language effectively and assist them with their education, opening up to them all of the opportunities a good education offers. In addition to helping students develop their communication skills, Dictionary Project sponsors give another valuable gift—that of their time and example. An essential part of the project is that sponsors deliver the dictionaries personally to the students, demonstrating community service in action, and supporting the students in their efforts at school. Our sponsors find that they gain as much as they give through this interaction, as the children’s enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge is inspiring. The parents and teachers are pleased and grateful for the gift as well, making this a great way to build relationships within a community.
We at The Dictionary Project are very excited to have the TelecomPioneers as partners in our efforts to reach all of the elementary schools in the country. We have enjoyed meeting the volunteers at the national convention and working with the Pioneer groups to develop a special edition of our dictionary for the Pioneers to distribute. TelecomPioneers are all about communication in their profession, and helping us help children develop their communication skills with the gift of a dictionary seems a natural extension of the TelecomPioneers’ work.
Below you will find the two titles that we have specifically printed for Verizon and AT&T TelecomPioneers, along with the link to other books that we offer.
