In addition to receiving letters from children who have received dictionaries, we sometimes receive letters from teachers and principals who directly witness the change dictionaries make in the students' lives . We share some of these letters with you. (The letters are sent either to us or the Sponsoring organization).
Dear Elks Lodge#2098,
I would like to add my thanks to those of my students. The donation of dictionaries is an excellent choice of service to the community. As teachers, we know that every household should have a dictionary available to all family members.
In addition to spelling, the dictionary introduces the user to many new words and ideas. It will be a valuable tool to the student and their family for years to come. They will be better students and therefore better citizens. It is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Losin

Mr. Bert Winton,:
Thank you so much for your generous donation of dictionaries to our Third Grade students. It was a perfect gift for them because they are just now learning to become proficient with resource books. We especially like these dictionaries because they are at the correct level of difficulty for 8 year old children and the print is clear and easily read. And, since dictionaries are always in short supply, getting one for their very own was very exciting for them.
I have enclosed some letters from students who wish to express their indiviual appreciation of your gift. The teachers also wanted to let you know that they believe this gift will help our students become better readers, spellers and writers. Thank you very much for visiting Capistrano and sharing your dictionaries with us all.
Sincerely,
Alice Gibbs, Principal

Dear Mr. Small,
this is a rather belated thank you for the class set of dictionaries. It was an incredible gesture, very generous and helpful.
Third grade is the year when students start to use the dictionary independently, and it is often very difficult to get families to provide one for their child. So along you came and gave one to each and every one of my students. Alleluia!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You and your friends at the Elks Lodge have my eternal admiration and gratitude-- especially if you do it every year!
As you can tell from the letters of my students they are grateful, as well, and can now do their dictionary homework (no excuses!)
Thank you again,
Marina Barnett
